STANDING IN THE GAP FOR THE CHURCH

Forty days of focussed prayer and fasting 20 June – 29 July

FAITH FOR A CHURCH, FAITH FOR A CITY

2 Chronicles 7:14 If My people, who are called by My name, shall humble themselves and pray, and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from Heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

Eph:20-23 All this energy issues from Christ; God raised him from death and set him on a throne in deep heaven, in charge of running the universe, everything from galaxies to governments, no name and no power exempt from his rule. And not just for the time being, but forever. He is in charge of it all, has the final word on everything. At the center of all this, Christ rules the church. The church, you see, is not peripheral to the world; the world is peripheral to the church. The church is Christ's body, in which he speaks and acts, by which he fills everything with his presence.

Devotion - Day 26

Solidarity: Agreeing with God

In solidarity we align ourselves, in prayer, with what God has shown us in His Word and agree with Him. Here is where prayer “in Jesus’ name” finds its true meaning. This is not a phrase we just add on to the end of our prayer to indicate that we are done. Jesus intended for us to pray with the authority that comes from linking our standing before the Father with His standing before the Father, our character with His character and our reputation with His. This means fully associating with Christ and discovering our identity in Him.

As Martin Luther defined it:
“Prayer is not overcoming God’s reluctance; it is laying hold of His highest willingness.”

Some would call it: “jumping on God’s bandwagon” or “surfing the wave that God creates”

David Bryant says the following about solidarity:
“Praying in solidarity recognizes that the only thing beyond the reach of our prayers is anything outside the will of God. In solidarity praying, then, we identify first of all. Not with the world’s battery of needs and longings, but with Jesus’ desire to please the Father. God’s Kingdom must control our agenda in prayer, not what culture defines for us as possible or impossible, but what God said will actually be.”

Wynand & Johannie said...

While Johannie and I were praying Saturday evening we were made aware by the Spirit of partners within Doxa becoming tired and worn down.

In many cases the same people attend all the meetings, etc.
We are quite busy with many church activities but it feels as if we are not realy seeing that much fruit (in a sense prooving that we are trying in vain to do the impossible).

In prayer we requested that God will take hold of our efforts and do His will with it. Also that He will align our efforts with what He has in mind (catching the wave).
