Devotion - Day 21
Prayer, Purity and Power
In a previous devotion we reflected on the importance of ‘heart preparation’ for effective praying. Today we want t meditate on the direct correlation between power in prayer and forgiveness.
1 John 3:21
Beloved, if our heart does not accuse us, we have confidence toward God. And whatever we ask, we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight.
In the Lord’s Prayer ‘Our Father’ in Mt 6:9-13 we pray ‘Forgive us we forgive others’. The implication is if we do not forgive others God answers our prayer and He does not forgive us. We have thus just prayed a curse upon ourselves. The only comment Jesus made after teaching His disciples the model prayer was in
Mat 6:14
For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you; but if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
Mark 11:23- 26
For truly I say to you that whoever shall say to this mountain, Be moved and be cast into the sea, and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that what he said shall occur, he shall have whatever he said. Therefore I say to you, All things, whatever you ask, praying, believe that you shall receive them, and it will be to you. And when you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive it so that also your Father in Heaven may forgive you your trespasses. But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in Heaven forgive your trespasses.
